Industrial IoT & Connectivity

We collect data from PLCs, SCADA, sensors and enterprise systems reliably and deliver it to every system that needs it: OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus and shop-floor integration.

Challenges we meet most often

  1. Protocol diversity

The same site mixes OPC UA, Modbus, vendor-specific drivers, SQL and REST sources, and each one brings its own integration burden.

  2. Point-to-point connections

Every new system is wired to each existing one, and the number of connections and the maintenance load grow quickly.

  3. Raw data without context

A register address or tag value carries no unit, asset or meaning, so every consumer re-interprets the data on its own.

  4. Intermittent field networks

Connection drops are inevitable; without buffering, the data from the outage window is lost.

Our approach

Four steps that start small, get validated and scale with templates.

  1. Discovery and inventory

Source systems, protocols and data consumers are mapped, and the first value-generating use cases are chosen.

  2. Connectivity architecture

A collection layer is set up at the edge or plant level, combining OPC UA, MQTT/Sparkplug and, where needed, Modbus (through an OPC UA gateway).

  3. Modeling and publishing

Raw tags are turned into asset models and published to consumers through a single namespace.

  4. Pilot and scale

The structure proven on one line or plant is replicated to other lines and plants with templates.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use OPC UA or MQTT?

They complement rather than compete. OPC UA typically shines on the machine and PLC side with its rich information model; MQTT is common for plant and cloud distribution thanks to its lightweight publish/subscribe design. In many architectures, data collected over OPC UA is published over MQTT.

Can we connect our legacy Modbus devices?

Yes. Modbus RTU and TCP devices are connected through a gateway or driver. In HighByte Intelligence Hub, Modbus TCP devices are reached through an OPC UA gateway.

Do I have to replace my existing SCADA or historian?

No. The data platform runs alongside those systems: it reads the data, models it and serves it to other systems. Sources such as PI System can be connected.

Should data be processed at the edge or in the cloud?

A hybrid is usually best: raw data is conditioned at the edge and only the valuable, contextual part goes to the cloud. This reduces latency and cloud cost and keeps local operations running when the connection drops.
